A Night of Poetry and Music

"Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost

Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
Thats how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died"

Peggy and I went to see Leonard Cohen last night. A simply wonderful show. Leonard Cohen is in his mid 70’s or so, but the old man put on a great show. He came on at 8:00 sharp and we left at 11:30, I kid you not!

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you

Great band with him. He introduced them all three times so I have NO excuse for not remembering their names, but I do not. There was a wonderful flamenco guitar player, another quality guitar player, a man who played sax, clarinet and harmonica, a keyboardist (with a Hammond B3), drummer and bassist and three back-up singers, one of whom collaborates with him on his writing (I did not know that!).

Yes you who must leave everything that you cannot control.
It begins with your family, but soon it comes around to your soul.

It was a treat to finally see in person this wonderful man who is a great poet, performer and musician.

If it be your will
If there is a choice
Let the rivers fill
Let the hills rejoice
Let your mercy spill
On all these burning hearts in hell
If it be your will
To make us well
And draw us near
And bind us tight
All your children here
In their rags of light
In our rags of light
All dressed to kill
And end this night
If it be your will
If it be your will.

In like a Lion, Middle like a Lamb, Out with March - Yuck

March. Yuck. The weather was beyond horrible. What happened? March is typically one of my favorite months.

This year it brought great happiness, but the happiness was wrapped in the crappiest weather I have ever seen in March.

Friday the 13th will never be a bad luck day for me again. I now have a wonderful reason to celebrate Friday's the 13th. Little Abby was born! In my book this entitles her to many many birthdays. She now OWNS March 13, and will get cards and gifts from her Pappy on every Friday the 13th as well!

She is a cute little elf. And I can see that she is going to be a pistol, as is her mother. She appears to favor the two middle fingers as her pacifier and we can all predict where she is going with that! A new board kicking, corner stomping screamer for Polly Anna.
In Mid March, Cousin Karen from AK dropped into town. We met her at the Triple Door to see Long Tall Marcia Ball, a New Orleans boogie woogie piano player. When Marcia spotted Peggy in the audience she HAD to call Peggy over for a picture.

Peggy and I tried to find outdoor life in March. We decided to get away to La Conner, but local and nationwide weather conspired against us. Taking a Friday off for our get-away celebration of anniversary #2 we were stymied by strong winds and shitty rain. Our baby-sitter (my Mom) was basking in the AZ sunshine, but due home on Thursday. Our plan was to drop off Neko on Friday morning and hit the road to La Conner and spend a lovely weekend bike riding and looking at tulips. Unfortunately high winds in AZ cancelled my mother's flight and she did not return till late Friday. We cancelled our early get-away and spent some time walking Lincoln Park with Neko.
On Saturday morning, at the break of dawn, (see previous posts on THIS subject) we headed for La Conner.

Diving through horrendous rain, we stopped at the outlet malls and bought tons of baby clothes and other desirable things to boost the economy and arrived in La Conner in the late afternoon. We toured the town, had a bite at the Brewpub and headed for Chuckanut drive, where our friends John and Nancy live, for a wonderful dinner and tour of their lovely home. On Sunday we toured the dirt where tulips will someday bloom and vowed to come back and see them, when
the weather co-operates.
